Winter Letterboxing - Snow Depth

Hi All,

If you are interested in Winder Letterboxing and wondering about snow
depth in your area, the gummint does provide a web site that allows
you to check on this nationwide or in your boxing 'hood:

I planted five letterboxes in our local park in December and left them there
till Spring, March 21st.
All the boxes made it through the winter and really had some stamps. We
don''t have very many letterboxes on Long Island so I was very happy with the
response.
.
I will replant a winter letterbox series again this year. December 22 to
March 21st only.

Thanks for the cool link. Now I can't wait for tomorrow's snowstorm so
I can watch the map change!

I've gone out the last couple of weekends and have been delighted
with the lack of poison ivy, fairly easy line-of-sight, and solitude.

Also, no getting your boots wet by stepping in standing water.

On the other hand, it is difficult to find the trail, although the
deer seem to find their way just fine, so I follow their footprints.

I love winter boxing. For all of the reasons below, plus, there are usually fewer people out and about so I have more of the woods to myself.

Well this will be my first winter boxing...although not my first winter
hiking. I am in the midst of planning a rather large winter event and
was lucky enough to get a lot of planting tips from hardy winter
boxers. It's funny..I thought I would spend a lot of my winter just
carving stamps, but it looks like I will be out there after all!

I know a few of my boxes are NOT safe in the winter, as they include
climbing up and down rock faces. So I am hoping no one attempts those.
